When to schedule your newborn session
1-2 WEEKS
The first two weeks are the sweet spot for newborn photos. Babies sleep longer, stay extra squishy, and naturally curl into those cozy, womb-like poses. That “scrunched up like a little froggy” stage is short-lived—after two weeks, growth spurts and changes happen fast.
Why this window works best:
- More sleep: Sleepy babies make calm sessions and those peaceful, posed images possible.
- Natural flexibility: Newborns are still curled from the womb and actually feel most comfortable in these positions.
- Maximum comfort: Early on, babies are less aware of their surroundings and settle more easily.
A fun fact: newborn bones aren’t fully fused yet, which is why they’re so wonderfully bendy. Around 2–3 weeks, babies begin stretching out, staying awake longer, and becoming more alert—still adorable, just trickier to pose.
2+ WEEKS
If you’re drawn to more lifestyle, connection-focused images, weeks 2–4 can be a great fit. Babies are more alert and often make beautiful eye contact, perfect for parent-focused photos.
Things to keep in mind:
- Great for awake photos: Baby may be awake for longer stretches, ideal for snuggly, natural moments.
- Posing changes: Curled, wrapped poses are harder at this stage, so outfits are often used instead.
- Skin changes: Baby acne or dry skin can appear around this time.
Every stage has its magic—it just depends on the style of images you love most.
